A Stray Tombstone in Pratt Kansas

A Construction Company was performing remodeling at a house in Pratt Kansas when they discovered a headstone on the west side of the house under a concrete slab.

The headstone reads: C.E. Miller 1887 – 1932.  No one knows why the tombstone is there. Authorities wonder if perhaps someone is buried there or was the stone taken from a local cemetery.

A check of nearby Greenlawn Cemetery revealed that a Corinda E. Miller was born and died in the same years listed on the found tombstone and is buried in Section 31 in Greenlawn.

Cemetery officials stated that the stones are similar. The speculation is that perhaps the stone found at the house was a temporary marker and once a permanent tombstone was erected, the temporary one was taken away.

A puzzling mystery!

Georgia R. Shore

Georgia R. Shore passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003, at the John Knox Care Center. She was born to William and Eliza (Lida) ROLLS in Lone Jack, MO on October 13, 1903. She graduated from Oak Grove High School and received her teacher certification from Central Missouri Teachers College at Warrensburg. She taught school prior to her marriage to Mark SHORE on August 11, 1925.

They lived and farmed in the Lone Jack and Pleasant Hill area during their 47 years of marriage. Mr. SHORE passed away on July 23, 1973. Georgia moved from the farm to Lee's Summit in 1980 and to John Knox Village where she lived for 19 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit. Services will be held Tuesday, June 3, at the First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit, 1st and Douglas Streets. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. with Service following at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Her survivors include her daughter, Pauline HINCK of Raytown, MO; two granddaughters, Cindy BOWMAN of Leawood, KS and Karen KUPERSMITH of Warrensburg, MO; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Tyler KUPERSMITH; and several nieces and nephews. (Arrangements: Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, MO)

Clarence E. ROLLS, 61, a former resident of Jackson County, died Saturday of a heart attack at his home in Thrall, Kas. He had just returned from a hunting trip when he was stricken. He was born in Lone Jack, and farmed in Jackson County before moving to Thrall about 30 years ago. He was employed by Greenwood County there. He was a member of the Lone Jack Baptist church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie ROLLS of the home; a son, Clarence R. ROLLS, Medford, Ore.; four sisters, Mrs. Viola SPEARS and Mrs. Willeta SCOTT, both of Pleasant Hill; Mrs. Vivian TAPSCOTT, Lee's Summit, and Mrs. Mark SHORES, Lone Jack; two brothers, Guy ROLLS, Lee's Summit, and Elmer ROLLS, Buckner, and one grandchild. Services will be at 3 o'clock Tuesday at the church; burial in Lone Jack cemetery.
