Stacy & Kyes Store in Rushford, Allegany County New York

This great old ledger book is from the Stacy & Kyes store in Rushford, Allegany County New York. Stacy and Kyes sold drugs, paints, books, groceries and just about everything else you can think of. The ledger starts in 1868 and ends in 1872. I had a look in the 1860 United States Federal Census and found that the folks that are listed in this ledger are not just from Rushford. Many people travelled for many miles to shop at the Stacy and Kyes store. I found people from Centerville and New Hudson, New York as well as other communities. The entries for each person are in many cases quite fascinating. A ledger like this gives a great look into the day to day lives of our ancestors in the years just after the Civil War.
